John Maughan MD York Print
Hello, my name is John Maughan, and this is a little bit about my Company and me.
I'm originally from South Shields. I moved away when my apprenticeship as a draughtsman at Swan Hunters shipyard never materialised due to the whole yard closing down the minute I left school.
Swan Hunter's loss was Canons gain. I studied and ended up with an HND in electronics, and on Norman Tebbit's advice, I got on my bike and looked for work, moving to London and joining Canon on my 21st Birthday.
I spent fourteen years working with the best team of technicians outside of NASA and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and skills repairing the companies high-end printing machines. And in the process........... I lost my Geordie accent.
Picture herel
As much as I loved my time at Canon, I had always wanted to run my own business, and In 2004 I started a printer sales & repair business which has evolved into the current day Design & Print business.
York Print Company is based on a lifetime in print. I own all the machines outright and still repair and service everything myself, which gives the business a substantial competitive advantage: lower running cost and next to no downtime. We are VERY competitive on price.
Oily bits and getting the best out of a machine - Yes. Being creative - sadly not ( know your limitations and all that). Fortunately, I know how to spot people with this particular skill set, and I employ a superb graphic designer (Kelle) with as much experience in design as I have in print. It's a small team, but it's a great team with a strong customer service ethic.
Kelle loves to talk about design and branding, and I am always happy to chat about print, especially the type of thing that adds value and makes you money. That's the name of the game....... right?.

Mark Stredwick was brought up in Yarm and studied Economics at Sheffield University. His work history includes 7 years involved with databases and reporting on data for marketing, working on boat and ships on Sydney harbour and in the dredging industry and lastly in beer tourism.

Picture herel
In May 2016 after his 16 years in Sydney, Australia Mark moved back to his home county of Yorkshire. Chelle Thirsk M.D. CGA

Member: Chelle Thirsk M.D. CGA

Chartered Certified Accountants and Taxation Advisors (with a difference)

On the 26
th July 1991 I began work at CGA.  In those days it was files as far as the eye could see and one computer shyly sulking in the corner.  Many years later (too many) – having taken the helm in 1998 -  our paperless office and flourishing client list means that I still enjoy coming to work each and every day. But there is still so much more to achieve for both CGA and our clients.
Picture herel
There is no place that I would rather be than at my desk or sitting on one of our comfy sofas, coffee in hand, advising clients from a full spectrum of regional businesses.  I am a self-confessed ‘doer’ and am enjoying working my way through a rather long bucket list, having ticked off a 15,000 feet parachute jump, fire walking and zorbing, there is still much to go! As a Zumba and Fight Fit addict, a good bottle of wine and a thriller make a relaxing change.

My interests are Horse Racing, Rugby Union and Music Festivals and Gigs

“I have been a member of Network York for 3 years and I find it to be professional, friendly and informal. It offers the opportunity to share ideas and to benefit from the experiences of other professionals.  The size and structure of the network means that we really get to build strong relationships, the foundations of which ensure that business gets done within the group wherever possible.”

Beki Whitehouse, Director Death and Disease
On leaving school I embarked on a successful and happy career with HSBC Bank, now having almost 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry.
As a qualified Financial Advisor I have a wealth of experience advising clients in all areas of financial planning but in particular now focus on working with clients who wish to review their protection needs. I also specialise in helping Employers who wish to provide employee benefits to their staff.

I am proud to be a qualified adviser and hold the Chartered Insurance Institute Diploma in Financial Planning and the Chartered Institute of Bankers Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice.

Picture herel
Following redundancy 6 years ago, I seized the opportunity to leave what was becoming a very ‘sales’ driven environment and moved into the world of self-employment. This has given me the chance to focus on building true relationships with my clients, getting to know and understand exactly what their individual needs are and advising them accordingly in all areas of protection – these being life insurance, critical illness cover, income protection, medical insurance and health cash plans, along with funeral plans. Based on client feedback I can now also advise clients who wish to make a Will, and/or set up Powers of Attorney.

I work with a range of clients, who vary from Individuals and Families, right through to Sole Trader owner managed businesses, Partnerships and Limited Companies and I take great pride in giving my clients peace of mind.

When not working you’ll either find me at the gym or knee deep in mud gardening!

Paul Robinson: Paul Oscar Photography.
Imagine your company were featured in a high-end magazine, in an article rich with high quality images of the people, places and products or services that make up your business. That’s the service I offer with Paul Oscar Photography: storytelling photography that businesses can use to give their websites, socials and communications a classy look that their competitors' may be lacking.

I work with clients to establish their needs long before I pick up the camera, so when it comes to the shoot, businesses end up with exactly what they’re looking for, be it headshots for internal use, branding materials, or images for advertising campaigns. I strive to give my customers the same great quality they give theirs.

Picture herel
About me

I trained as a photographer in 2015 and went into business in 2018, having previously worked as an editor for a publishing company. In my previous role I developed a keen eye for detail that has translated to my photography work: where once I was scouring text for misplaced punctuation and redundant language, I’m now editing colours, light, sharpness and composition to create the best images possible. Photography is my passion as well as my profession, and I put the same care and attention into my clients’ images as I would to those I was going to hang on my wall. What do I shoot? The people, places and things that make your business what it is. This may include any combination of: - Corporate headshots (formal, against a plain background) - Environmental portraits (more informal: you in your working environment) - Locations (indoor and out) - Food - Products
